Artist Writeup:
Tung Yue Nang (b. 1959, Singapore) is a 3rd generation Singaporean artist who subscribes to the Chinese philosophy of Tao Te Ching in his art practice, which focuses on harmony and tranquillity amidst the chaos and disorder of everyday life. While initially focused on traditional Chinese paintings, Tung subsequently allows elements of Western art to permeate his style, including using collage. While his early artworks comprised mainly landscapes in the traditional Chinese style, he subsequently replaced naturalism with abstract representations in his art, and also began to experiment with acrylic and mixed media paintings, often with the colour red which represents auspicousness and is also his personal favourite. Tung travels widely to seek inspiration and spiritual nourishment, and often returns from such trips with renewed insights and inspiration for his art, which would culminate in a new series of paintings, such as this work in his Egyptian series. Tung has exhibited widely in several solo and group exhibitions, and has also won awards such as Dr Tan Tze Chor Art Award for Chinese painting in 2002, 2014 and 2019.
